KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Pos Malaysia Bhd (PMB) announced today that it has been appointed by the government as the agent for the disbursement of fuel subsidy to eligible vehicle owners.

Eligible Malaysians can start claiming the subsidy at all 686 post offices nationwide effective July 1, 2008, PMB said in a statement.

As announced by the government, vehicles with a valid road tax from April 1, 2008, to March 31, 2009, are entitled to the annual subsidy.

Owners of cars up to 2,000cc as well as pick-up trucks and jeeps of up to 2,500cc will receive RM625 for each vehicle.

Those with motorcycles of up to 250cc will receive RM150 each.

PMB said vehicle owners who come personally to make the claim at post offices would be paid in cash.

Those appointing a third party to make the claim will receive a money order which will be mailed directly to the owner's address as furnished to PMB when making the claim, it said.

It added that further details of the procedures and related documents required for the claim will be announced soon.

"PMB, through its extensive network countrywide, will be ready to serve our customers in handling the subsidy payments in a convenient and timely manner," said its acting managing director and group chief executive officer, Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid. -- BERNAMA
